California Assembly takes nation’s first legislative action to regulate daily fantasy industry

California lawmakers took another significant step in their swift response to daily fantasy sports, as a proposed bill to regulate the industry passed an Assembly-wide vote with stunning ease on Wednesday, sending a clear message about the legislature’s stance on the billion-dollar industry.

Even as ongoing questions about daily fantasy’s uncertain legality were acknowledged on the floor, the California’s State Assembly still passed AB 1437 with a 62-1, vote, becoming the first legislative body in the nation to approve a bill to regulate daily fantasy sports.
